MF Gallery first opened its doors in June 2003 in New York City’s Lower East Side. The gallery quickly became a meeting point for underground artists and international collectors. Known for its wild opening parties, (Often featuring live music, zombie invasions, ten foot tall death metal robots, kegs and sheep brains!) and unique art shows, MF Gallery is now a staple of the underground pop art scene.

In 2009, MF Gallery opened a second location in Genova, Italy, introducing many of the best American artists to the Italian public and bringing some Italian artists back to the U.S.

Also in 2009, the NYC gallery moved to a bigger space in Gowanus, Brooklyn. This space’s entranceway has become a collaborative mural, where dozens of MF Gallery artists have been asked to leave their mark.

MF Gallery continues to host underground art shows- both large group shows, (With varied themes ranging from the annual Halloween and Toy Shows, to Planet Of The Apes, Breastfeeding Art, GWAR, Horror Films and more…) and solo / two person shows. Additionally, MF Gallery has a full “Art Shop” featuring artist prints, t-shirts, art toys, comics, books, and more collectable items.

Thanks to all of MF Gallery’s great artists, collectors and friends, our 15 year journey has been incredible! Here’s to the future!

MF Gallery is located at 213 Bond Street, between Butler and Baltic Streets in the Gowanus area of Brooklyn, NY. Take the A or G to Hoyt/ Schermerhorn, the F or G to Bergen, or the R to Union.

Saturday nite & it’ll be allright…Opening party @ MF Gallery, Brooklyn 5/22/10

This Saturday, come out & enjoy artwork from diverse artists at the opening night party of “I NEED YOUR SKULL” Artists were asked to create skulls, more on MFGallery.net…. Should be a great time!

My finished submission 😉 It is my first oil painting in a few years. I used some acrylic medium in the under layers for speed drying, which made it a little more difficult in the long run. I used these cool Japanese paints, so the palette is very different than some of the European colors I’ve used with acrylics. I look forward to doing more pieces with these paints, but I really gotta stock up on orderless thinners. I’ve been enjoying all the beautiful flowers in my hood and I guess, spending too much time ’round Chinatown.

Wish I had thought to set up the bulbs & tripod, but it was raining cats & dogs this day, so the pic is dark.
